People Who Need People

Oct 22, 2021Health, On Another Note...

Are the luckiest people in the world. Where do I begin?

For the first time in twenty years I am working for someone else. For the first time in twenty years I’ve been cooking for my immediate family and my immediate family only.

On September 26 I began working part time for Elders Ace Hardware of Cleveland, Tennessee.

I have been asked many times, “why?”. The reason is solely to be around people. People, yes people. My soul was hungry for interaction with people. With my Mom passing away in 2019 and my Dad 2020, I didn’t realize how much I truly missed their presence out here on the farm until this past year without them. “People who need people are the luckiest people in the world”.

I was scared to go to work for someone else. I worried about being on someone else’s schedule. I had created my own schedule for twenty years. What was this going to be like?

When they were interviewing me for the job they asked me, “do you think this will be a short term job or do you look at being here a long time?”. That I could not answer. I honestly still cannot answer that question. What I do know is…I. LOVE. MY. JOB! I love my coworkers and all the precious folks that rely on Ace Hardware and our customer service.

I took this part time position with the intentions of cooking and delivering foods to y’all once a month or every other month all while juggling my Bed and Breakfast, The Victoria House. So far I have only been able to take time to adjust to my new job schedule and bed and breakfast bookings. That along with farm life, mom life, pastors wife life, you can imagine I have kept very busy.

I’m hoping to get back in the kitchen for you sometime soon, but for now I will have to admit, I have found a new love. I have always enjoyed life on the farm and the tools we work with. I always did enjoy holding the flashlight for my dad and all of the work we did together. Now I’m a “helpful hardware folk” and I LOVE it.

In the meantime, if you need a plumbing part, a key made, a chainsaw blade sharpened, a fresh new paint color mixed, something from our beautiful home decor section or just wanna come say howdy…come see me at Elders Ace Hardware of Cleveland or Book a Stay or an Experience at The Victoria House. YALL COME!
